Bladder Problems Prevention During Menopause
The muscular tone and the bladder may be a little difficult to control when the level of estrogens in a woman's body drops. If pressure is put on the bladder by sneezing, coughing, laughing or any other cause, the control of the bladder may be temporary lost (for a very short time) causing small leakage. This problem is more likely to occur to women who had children and it is called urinary stress incontinence.
Another problem that should be dealt with by the doctors, is urge incontinence. It is a sudden feeling of overwhelming of urinating even though the bladder contains only a small amount of urine. This condition however, will not go beyond the mild stage which can be encountered during the Perimenopause.
Kegel Exercises
Kegel exercises will help strengthen the pelvic floor muscle and can solve the problem of urinary stress incontinence caused by the perimenopause. Those exercises, that carry the name of the doctor that invented them must be done diligently and are not noticed by others around you. They consist in practice of the pelvic muscles by contraction as if trying to stop the flow of urine. Hold the contraction for ten seconds, then release and relax, than repeat the procedure. It will strengthen the muscles and give you a better control over the bladder. Another method of Kegel exercise is to alternate contraction and relaxation of the pelvic muscles quickly in a few rounds of ten repeats.
Urge incontinence can be improved by delaying for as much as possible the trips to the bathroom. Those conditions are usually eliminated through HRT.
